what a month it has been!

A Lot can happen in a month!
And it has!
Firstly I have been back at work for 4 weeks almost and that has taken up time trying to juggle Alice, Emily, Aiden and work!
Slowly I am getting into a routine and am often up at 5 am to work or read through notes etc! So sleep is an ongoing issue in our house!
Aiden a couple of weekends back went to an open audition for the High School Musical stage show and got a call back! we waited a long week last week to hear whether or not he was in and sure enough he has a part what part we aren't sure about but probably not the lead! At 13.5 that is great! He now has 3 weeks of at least 46 hours rehearsals over our summer so he won't have a holiday holiday! Yet the most amazing experience a teenager could ask for!
The shows are from 29 Jan through to 7 Feb so he will return to year 10 a tired young Man!
Before that Emily had surgery for her other eye and we left Miss Alice for the first time since we were handed her on 15 June so that left her mark and then again this last Friday both times I couldn't wait to hold her in my arms!
She so hates being away from us as long as Keith or I am here it is fine!
Well Emily continues to do well at school and has less than 4 weeks left! So once she is off it will be all go!
Other highlights
Aiden has been tramping this week!
The warm temperatures in the 20's everyday! Yum!
The glasshouse growing even when neglected!
Alice's smiles and cheekiness!
Emily reading and we will have to book swimming lessons over the summer!
Keith who works such long hours!
So I will post some photos and then catch up with more blogging when I get a break!
Hugs and Kisses

A lovely Email that arrived!

I hope that I am like this with my children!
After a hard day of Christmas Shopping and sorting out what we were doing for the kids this email arrived. It made me smile and the big issues seem to melt away!

Here It is................................

The YELLOW SHIRT

The yellow shirt had long sleeves, four extra-large pockets trimmed in black thread and snaps up the front. It was faded from years of wear, but still in decent shape. I found it in 1963 when I was home from college on Christmas break, rummaging through bags of clothes Mom intended to give away. 'You're not taking that old thing, are you?' Mom said when she saw me packing the yellow shirt. 'I wore that when I was pregnant with your brother in 1954!'

'It's just the thing to wear over my clothes during art class, Mom. Thanks!' I slipped it into my suitcase before she could object. The yellow shirt be came a part of my college wardrobe. I loved it. After graduation, I wore the shirt the day I moved into my new apartment and on Saturday mornings when I cleaned.

The next year, I married. When I became pregnant, I wore the yellow shirt during big-belly days. I missed Mom and the rest of my family, since we were in Colorado and they were in Illinois. But that shirt helped. I smiled, remembering that Mother had worn it when she was pregnant, 15 years earlier.

That Christmas, mindful of the warm feelings the shirt had given me, I patched one elbow, wrapped it in holiday paper and sent it to Mom. When Mom wrote to thank me for her 'real' gifts, she said the yellow shirt was lovely. She never mentioned it again.

The next year, my husband, daughter and I stopped at Mom and Dad's to pick up some furniture. Days later, when we uncrated the kitchen table, I noticed something yellow taped to its bottom. The shirt!

And so the pattern was set.

On our next visit home, I secretly placed the shirt under Mom and Dad's mattress. I don't know how long it took for her to find it, but almost two years passed before I discovered it under the base of our living-room floor lamp. The yellow shirt was just what I needed now while refinishing furniture. The walnut stains added character.

In 1975 my husband and I divorced. With my three children, I prepared to move back to Illinois. As I packed, a deep depression overtook me. I wondered if I could make it on my own. I wondered if I would find a job. I paged through the Bible, looking for comfort. In Ephesians, I read, 'So use every piece of God's armour to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will be standing up.'

I tried to picture myself wearing God's armour, but all I saw was the stained yellow shirt. Slowly, it dawned on me. Wasn't my mother's love a piece of God's armour? My courage was renewed.

Unpacking in our new home, I knew I had to get the shirt back to Mother. The next time I visited her, I tucked it in her bottom dresser drawer.

Meanwhile, I found a good job at a radio station. A year later I discovered the yellow shirt hidden in a rag bag in my cleaning closet.
Something new had been added. Embroidered in bright green across the breast pocket were the words 'I BELONG TO PAT.'

Not to be outdone, I got out my own embroidery materials and added an apostrophe and seven more letters. Now the shirt proudly proclaimed,

But I didn't stop there. I zig-zagged all the frayed seams, then had a friend mail the shirt
'I BELONG TO PAT'S MOTHER.'
in a fancy box to Mom from Arlington , VA. We enclosed an official looking letter from 'The Institute for the Destitute,'announcing that she was the recipient of an award for good deeds. I would have given anything to see Mom's face when she opened the box. But, of course, she never mentioned it.

Two years later, in 1978, I remarried. The day of our wedding, Harold and I put our car in a friend's garage to avoid practical jokers. After the wedding, while my husband drove us to our honeymoon suite, I reached for a pillow in the car to rest my head. It felt lumpy. I unzipped the case and found, wrapped in wedding paper, the yellow shirt. Inside a pocket was a note: 'Read John 14:27-29. I love you both, Mother.'
That night I paged through the Bible in a hotel room and found the verses: 'I am leaving you with a gift: peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really love me, you will be very happy for me, for now I can go to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do, you will believe in me.'

The shirt was Mother's final gift. She had known for three months that she had terminal Lou Gehrig's disease. Mother died the following year at age 57.

I was tempted to send the yellow shirt with her to her grave. But I'm glad I didn't, because it is a vivid reminder of the love-filled game she and I played for 16 years. Besides, my older daughter is in college now, majoring in art. And every art student needs a baggy yellow shirt with big pockets.

You have 6 minutes.... Send this to some one you care for and share the story!
I found it amazing!

A craft

Today was a partially productive day I did a craft for Emily as she is having trouble sleeping so had a little touch lamp and that lasted a few weeks so today I went out and found a better quality big girl's lamp and have made it more girly by adding on some butterflies and let me know what you think.
We had an early start with Alice at just after 1 am and she was awake until at least 3 am and then Emily was awake at 6 am! Oh Lordy I am way too old for surviving on 4 hours sleep! I have had a migraine headache for most of the day but just pushed through the pain!
Hope you having a great Tuesday!

where does the time go?

Well time seems to slip through my hand like a water. It is hard to catch and carry it unless you have a bucket!
What has happened since my last real post?
The kids have all grown! Aiden has found girls and the world of Bebo and texting! Where did the baby we bought home 13 years ago dissappear to?
Alice is walking well running really she appears to be firmly attached yet as her mother I have an itch which I can't quite reach!
So as I said appears to be firmly attached.
The kids and I took a road trip during the holidays and collected our newest member of the family! A Seal burmese girl born the day after Miss Alice! and a year younger!
We have had the Melamine scare and are still waiting to get an ultra sound to check out Alice's kidneys. We have done blood tests and they are all clear!
We have had Emily start school which was a huge thing for me! Just as well we have had me at home and the last thing of note is that Emily has more eye surgery on the 30 October!
So all in all life is hectic! And yes it is 2:45 am here Miss Alice has had a nasty viral infection and has woken up and both Keith and I are up and wide wake! GRRR!
Take care and I will post updated photos later today!
